A Note Before the Story Begins

This is a love story. It is also a story about bodies — what they carry, what they are told they are worth, and what happens when someone looks at you and sees something truer than the measure you have given yourself.

It is a story about family — the kind you are born into, the kind you are chosen into, and the kind that forms between two people in the cold, over twelve days, in a valley where the mountains are older than any word for love and have seen all of this before.

It is a story about the Indian diaspora — about the particular loneliness and particular richness of being thoroughly modern and thoroughly rooted at the same time, of carrying a country inside you while building a life somewhere else, of loving your family so much that their hope for you sometimes feels indistinguishable from their doubt.

It is set in a reality television show because that is where these particular people found each other. The cameras do not matter. What happened between them was real.

A note on the show's rules: contestants on The Chosen are not permitted to disclose their age, profession, or educational background to one another while in Inferno. These details are revealed only on the penultimate evening, around the campfire, before the final day. Until that moment, what the contestants know of each other is only this: how a person looks, how they speak, how they move, what they laugh at, what they reach for, and what they reveal when they think no one is watching. The show is built on the premise that this is, in fact, everything.

The Chosen — Season One begins on Day One, the morning of 4 February 2029, at the Pahalgam production arrival point.

Both of them are already there.

Neither of them knows yet.
